There Is No Traffic Jam Along the Extra Mile

There is something interesting about doing what other people are unwilling to do. It changes the odds. When everyone is looking for the quickest route, the easiest answer or the least demanding option, the extra mile can feel like a lonely place. It takes more time, more effort and often more patience. Yet that is exactly why it can become such a valuable place to be.

The extra mile is not necessarily about working harder for the sake of it. It is about doing something beyond what is expected because you understand that worthwhile results are rarely produced by doing only what is required.

Think about the people you respect. Often, what separates them from everyone else is not some extraordinary talent. It is the consistency with which they do the things others eventually stop doing.

They keep learning. They keep improving. They keep their promises. They pay attention to details. They continue when the initial excitement has disappeared.

Positive thinking has a role here because your attitude towards effort determines how you experience it. If every additional demand feels like an unfair burden, you will naturally look for ways to avoid it. If you see effort as an investment in who you are becoming, it takes on a different meaning.

There will be times when going the extra mile produces no immediate reward. You may wonder whether anyone has noticed.

Keep going. The habits you develop while nobody is watching can eventually become the reason somebody notices.
