If You Just Sit There

There comes a point when thinking about what you want is no longer enough. You can imagine a different life, make plans, write lists and tell yourself that tomorrow will be different. But eventually, something has to happen. You have to move.

It is easy to confuse thinking with progress. We can spend hours considering possibilities, analysing our choices and worrying about what might go wrong. The mind can create an extraordinary number of reasons to wait. Sometimes waiting feels safer because as long as you have not acted, you have not failed. But you have not succeeded either.

Success rarely arrives because you sat quietly hoping for circumstances to change. It grows from decisions, actions, mistakes, adjustments and the willingness to keep moving when the outcome is uncertain.

That does not mean rushing into everything. There is a difference between thoughtful action and reckless action. You need to understand where you are going, but eventually the map has to become a journey.

The first step may be small. Make the phone call. Start the project. Have the conversation. Apply for the opportunity. Learn the skill. Change one habit. Do something that moves you from thinking about your future to participating in it.

You do not need to know exactly where every step will lead. What matters is that you stop waiting for the perfect moment. Your circumstances may not change overnight. Your confidence may not arrive before you begin. And the fear you feel may not disappear.

Move anyway. Because if you just sit there waiting for life to change, you may spend your life waiting.
